How it works

How it works

  1. 1Choose how much you'd like to give today.
  2. 2Spread the love yourself by swiping, or let our AI share it.
  3. 3Pay once. You see the help, the 10% service fee, VAT and any tip before you pay.
  4. 4We buy the vouchers, tokens, airtime or data and send them straight to the Neighbour's phone.
  5. 5You get a receipt. Later you see the till-slip check and any thank-you.

Help a Neighbour. Earn Good Karma.

Questions

Is this a charity?

No. Help a Neighbour is a business. We charge a service fee on every purchase, and that is how we pay our costs.

Where does my money go?

Your help amount buys vouchers, prepaid electricity, airtime or data for the Neighbour you chose. We never send cash. The service fee, VAT and any tip go to Help a Neighbour.

How do I know it was used properly?

Grocery, baby, medicine and family-treat vouchers need a till slip. Three AI checks look at it and two of three decide. A pass shows as "Bought as listed" on your receipt.

What does it cost?

A 10% service fee on the help amount, plus 15% VAT on that fee. So R100 of help costs R111.50. A tip is optional.

Can I get a tax certificate?

No. This is a purchase, not a gift to an approved organisation. Businesses can get a tax invoice for the service fee.

What is Good Karma?

Every time you help, you earn a smiley. Four smileys make a sunshine, or fill someone's whole help request in one go for a sunshine straight away. It's just for fun and has no cash value.

Can I contact the person?

No. Neighbours can send you a thank-you in the app. We never share phone numbers or addresses, and direct contact closes accounts.

How do you stop abuse?

Fixed amounts and monthly limits, one open help request at a time, no cash ever, till-slip checks, a Transparency Score, and pausing and banning households that break the rules. Helpers can't pay for their own help request, and new Helpers have a first-week limit.
